The Albanian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Ridi Kurtezi, says that there are about 1,500 Albanians in Dubai, but also in other cities.
In an exclusive interview with Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu, he says that there has been continuous coordination with the foreign ministry and at the moment there is no need for emergency evacuation.
"It was unexpected and unpredictable, due to the fact that the leadership here has been in constant contact with Iranian plans, and it was unexpected that there would be such strikes. Moreover, this country and other Gulf countries have long made it known that they will not allow any attack from their territories. So, it was unexpected and unpredictable, which is why it created this kind of impact.
In the United Arab Emirates, we have approximately 1,400–1,500 Albanians with residency, who work and live here, but there is also a number of tourists, which is unknown, as they move without visas and are not obliged to contact the embassy. It is thought that, in addition to these 1,500 residents, there may be around 2,000 others who come and go without the need for a visa.
There is an increased interest in understanding what will happen, we are in contact, exchanging phone calls and emails, trying to calm them down, as it is not a matter of a blockade, but of finding alternative routes for their movement. Today this is impossible, due to the fact that we must understand that the Emirates' missile defense, which today is one of the best in the world, cannot allow the movement of aircraft, as it must intercept missiles.
I think that maybe tomorrow we will have new news, which will enable the movement. Today I came from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; I was there at a briefing by the Minister of State, who announced that there should be no room for panic, as the United Arab Emirates has the situation under control through missile defense.
Regarding the opening of airspace, it relates not only to the United Arab Emirates, but also to neighboring countries, which have closed airspace through Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait. This is the current situation.
"There is no talk of evacuation at the moment, due to the fact that entry and exit permits are impossible, not only for the United Arab Emirates, but also for neighboring countries," the ambassador said.
