Monika Kryemadhi

The former president of the Socialist Movement for Integration, MP Monika Kryemadhi, appeared in the Tirana Court to file a civil lawsuit against Top Channel television and announced a criminal lawsuit against us.

The reason for this anger of the senior politician is the publication of some facts by Top Channel about payments received and given by Mrs. Kryemadhi to companies registered in tax havens but proven to be backed by Russian oligarchs closely connected to the Kremlin. The payment invoices were made for marketing services or shareholder profits, according to documents that were also published by foreign media.

Monika Kryemadhi's civil lawsuit against Top Channel is not aimed at proving public facts against her, but at hitting the largest national media in financial terms. This is clearly seen in the request for compensation, of 400 thousand euros, that the deputy of the Freedom Party is seeking from Top Channel.

In the European Center for Media Freedom, Kryemadhi's lawsuit is known as SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation), which aims at intimidation and increasing pressure on the media not to publish facts against politicians that harm the public interest.

Top Channel calls on the justice bodies to prove the facts of her involvement with Russian financing, in parallel with the lawsuit of Mrs. Kryemadhit against the media.

We remind Mrs. Kryemadhi that free speech was hit once this year, and since she did not even show solidarity in those moments for our media, we invite her to at least not incite revolt against Top Channel, which in fact only does the work of reporting news, never defamation.

Top Channel is not intimidated and blackmailed by any political entity, because this media is owned by Albanians, who have been loyal to our screen for years./Tch
