The Parliament is expected to decide today regarding the Belinda Balluku case , while the British Embassy in Tirana has also reacted.

Through a post on social media, the embassy emphasizes the importance of preserving the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary, underlining that parliamentary immunity should protect democratic processes, but should not become an obstacle to equal accountability before the law.

Announcement from the British Embassy: 

The British Embassy stresses the importance of preserving the rule of law and judicial independence, and recognizes Albania's progress in judicial reform since 2016, including the establishment of SPAK.

The Executive, Judiciary, and Legislature remain equal partners in supporting this progress as part of Albania's goal of achieving EU membership.

While parliamentary immunity should protect democratic processes, it should not be an obstacle to equal accountability before the law.
