The police have reacted to the incident in Durrës where a quantity of explosives was found in the Veliera area on Tuesday evening, near the palace where former mayor Vangjush Dako resides . 

Engineer forces carried out a controlled explosion of explosives this morning after keeping the area surrounded for many hours.

The Blues inform that the explosive substance was connected to a cell phone attached to a natriban.

The police received a report about the explosives at around 10:30 PM, where explosive material was found in neighborhood no. 1, in a place called "Veliera".

Police services went to the scene and established a security perimeter. While RENEA's anti-explosive unit carried out actions to deactivate the explosive package.

Police announcement:

Durrës/On 20.05.2025, at around 22:30, in neighborhood no. 1, in the place called "Veliera", a package with suspected explosives was found.

Immediately after receiving the notification, the Police services went to the given address and established a security perimeter, while the RENEA anti-explosive unit carried out actions to deactivate the package with explosives that was connected to a cell phone attached to a natriban.


The investigative group, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, is working to clarify the circumstances of the case, identify and capture the perpetrator(s).

The procedural materials were transferred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Durrës, for further action.
