Minister of Culture Blendi Gonxhja, at a media conference today, March 27, spoke more about the role of cultural institutions in the country.
Gonxha said that the Albanian government is doing everything to strengthen artistic institutions. He added that we have an increase in tickets to cultural institutions, as citizen interest is also growing.
"We must have empowered artistic institutions. Public participation in artistic programs has increased. The number of tickets sold for artistic programs has also increased by 57 percent. There is an increase in income by 69 percent or over 50 million lekë," said the minister.
Gonxha underlined that there are more visitors to the National Theater today. There is also interest from citizens in children's performances and the Circus.
"Today there are more visitors to the National Theater. The Experimental Theater also has an increase in tickets sold. There has also been increased interest in the Children's Theater. The Tirana Circus has also had an increase in requests to see performances," he declared.
Gonxhja also appreciated that the Ministry of Culture is supporting young talents and will continue to do so in the future.
"We have a fund for young talents. We support every talent that competes at an international level and achieves good results. We have an expanded range to support the talents we have. We want to support organizations and associations as much as possible, so that the ideas they have can be realized", said Minister Gonxhja.
The minister also spoke about an archaeological museum that will be built near Mother Teresa Square in Tirana. He provided details on how this museum will be built.
"The new archaeological museum near Mother Teresa Square is very good news for the city. Especially for a vibrant Tirana, it is necessary both in terms of tourism and culture to have as many centers as possible that offer a rich 'menu' of history, past, present and various themes. Until now, we have suffered in this regard, as we have had a narrative mainly related to the Cold War period or the time of the regime, so a very limited offer. This underground museum will be dedicated to archaeological artifacts and various findings related to the funds of the Institute of Archaeology and other institutions. We have many funds, much more than we can currently exhibit", Gonxha announced.
Asked by journalists whether a resort will be built in the Bay of Manastir in Butrint Park, Gonxha had this answer.
"I have no news related to this construction or the opposition's stance, the existential complex, where do I know... Maybe I will give the answer at the next conference or from my press office. This area is not in the protected area, it is excluded and due to specifics it is an issue that does not even fall within my time and I do not have an answer today", he said.
