Minister Delina Ibrahimaj announced in a press conference that the war in the Middle East has begun to have its first effects on the prices of the food basket in the country, reflecting significant increases in some basic products.
According to the minister, the government is unable to directly intervene in determining prices, as they depend on supply and demand, but will undertake controls to avoid speculation.
"I didn't say we will intervene in prices. I also explained why we cannot apply the same mechanism because it is impossible for us to intervene in prices," said Delina Ibrahimaj.
Excerpt from the minister's speech:
I didn't say we will intervene in prices. I also explained why we can't apply the same mechanism because it is impossible for us to intervene in prices.
I said that we are monitoring them on a daily basis and will go out to verify that these prices are not abusive and what I said is that if we are going to have a continuous impact on consumer prices then we will support the layers that cannot afford the price increase, not even for a temporary period because as we know, wars begin and end.
And our focus is on retirees.
I have never said that we will intervene in prices, because it is impossible for us, even with the economy we have established where prices are determined by supply and demand, fuel is different and the food market is different.
