The Supreme Court decided not to accept the appeal of Izet Haxhi, the former bodyguard of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.

This means that the sentence of 21 years imprisonment for the murder of former democratic deputy Azem Hajdari in September 1998 remains in force.

Izet Haxhia was arrested in Turkey and although he gained asylum status, he decided to return to Albania, where the process was reopened.

Haxhia, once Berisha's former bodyguard, asked to face the witnesses in court, among them former Prime Minister Berisha, in order to shed light, according to him, on truths not made public about the murder.

After the retrial of the case, he was found guilty and sentenced for the murder of Hajdar.
