The Criminal Court of Kosovo has rejected the request of former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj , to replace the security measure "arrest with imprisonment" in exchange for a property guarantee worth 20 million euros.

Meanwhile, Beqaj will continue to remain in custody for the SASPAC file, related to the abuse of foreign donations.

Beqaj also used as an argument the change in the practice of the United Colleges regarding the measure of "prison arrest", according to which "prison arrest" should be taken only after other alternative measures have been considered.

Beqaj has been held in custody since July 2024 for the Saspac file of abuse of foreign donations, while he is being tried without security measures for the Sterilization file.

SPAK has raised suspicions that former Minister Beqaj, as head of SASPAC, abused at least 8 procurement procedures from the agency for managing EU funds, inflating the figures to hundreds of thousands of euros to various companies for unperformed services.

The beneficiary of the money was the former minister himself and his associates, but SPAK still does not have an exact figure.

Currently, SPAK has seized 14.3 million lek, 15 thousand 500 euros and 42 thousand 300 $, belonging to citizens Ilir Beqaj, Gazment Haxhia, Ermal Kurtulaj, Bjona Zijaj, Bledar Leka and Elton Marini .
