The former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu, is officially accused in the case of Gërdec, and his trial begins today.

The first court session against Mediu is being held in the Special Court. GJKKO has accepted the summary trial, while Mediu is accused of abuse of dual duty under the Criminal Code and the Military Criminal Code.

The former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu, is accused that in connection with the process of demilitarization and dismantling of ammunition that took place in the premises of the former "Tank Brigade", in the village of Gërdec, in cooperation with other officials of the Ministry of Defense as well as persons who had the quality of military personnel in command, issued several by-laws in violation of the law.

According to SPAK, Mediu has harmed the interests of the state and has favored 2 companies, 'SAC' and 'Albademil'. For this matter, he is accused of "abuse of duty" referring to the Criminal Code and "abuse of duty" in cooperation with a military subject-command cadre.

The main argument of Mediu's defense is that according to him, the criminal offense for which he is accused, abuse of office, is prescribed according to Article 66 of the Criminal Code, since more than 10 years have passed from the time of the commission of the criminal offense to the moment of taking the person as a defendant.
