A serious incident has occurred in an Albanian family in Italy, where a 20-year-old man is suspected of brutally raping his mother during her birthday dinner and then disappearing after being filmed by security cameras as he jumped into the sea at the port of Civitanova.

According to Italian media , the young man, Riccardo Mercuri, has been missing since yesterday afternoon.

Firefighters, the Teramo divers' unit, the Coast Guard and the Carabinieri are involved in the search. Authorities hope that he has emerged at another point in the port basin and has left in a state of shock, but the worst-case scenario is not ruled out.

According to the reconstruction of the event, everything happened on Friday around 9:00 p.m. Only the 20-year-old and his mother, Albana Kastriot, owner of an aesthetic center, were in the apartment, while the father, Mario Merkuri, a construction entrepreneur, and the other son of the family were outside. A neighbor, alarmed by the screams, immediately notified the carabinieri.

When the police arrived at the scene, the young man had left, while the woman was found unconscious in the bathroom. She had been severely raped and was rushed to the hospital in Macerata. Doctors confirmed a fractured jaw. Her condition is serious, but not life-threatening.

A search was immediately launched for the 20-year-old, charged with serious injury with aggravating circumstances. He had fled in his vehicle, a Mercedes Class A, leaving his mobile phone at home, which was seized by investigators.

The vehicle was found parked near the entrance to the port of Civitanova. Security camera footage shows the young man entering the port area and then jumping into the sea. He is seen surfacing, climbing back up and jumping once more. After that, he is no longer seen.

Authorities continue to search for the 20-year-old.
