If we look at the Albanian markets, there is a marked lack of the country's tomatoes, and there is a reason for this.

Climatic stress has caused less tomato production this year, but farmer Qerim Elezi from Belshi says that every bad thing has a good side. After many years, the Albanian farmer is selling a kilogram of tomatoes at the much-desired price, where a kilogram of tomatoes is being bought for 180 ALL at the wholesale price. He says that Albanian tomatoes are being preferred by Serbian citizens, for this reason they are all going for export and not for the local market.

After 13 years in emigration, Qerimi left Italy to plant 10,000 tomato roots in 4 dynym greenhouses. For the 35-year-old, returning to his homeland was the right decision, since in these years the land has given him the profit he expected. He says that the demands for the early Albanian tomato are great not only from the local consumer, but also the European one.

"Production is less because the cold winter has damaged the first floor of the plant and therefore the grain has remained small. this grain is not taken by export, but by the local market. So far I have sent all the tomatoes to the Lushnja market and what I have learned is that my tomatoes have gone to Serbia. I still have a lot of requests, but production is low and we couldn't answer them all. While the price is very good if we compare it with last year, where I sold a kilogram of tomatoes for 150 Lek, while this time it was 180 Lek", says the farmer.

Qerimi says that he made the right choice to plant only the sweet "rossalina" tomato on his land. This decision came after failure with other agricultural crops.

"Before, I planted cucumber, red pepper, pumpkin, but we saw that tomato brings more profit and we concentrated here. it's more profitable," says the farmer.

But the sweet rossalina tomato is coming at a salty price for the citizens, where a kilogram of tomato in fruit and vegetable stores is being sold for 230-260 lek./Tch
