All lawyers in the country starting today until the 7th will boycott all court hearings. The decision was taken by the National Chamber of Advocacy after the equal attack on the lawyer Sokol Mêngjesi, who has been sent for treatment in Athens.
28 members of the General Council of the Chamber of Advocates voted in favor of boycotting the trials, while they are expected to participate only in the sessions for security measures. The chairman Maks Haxhia himself explained that this decision of the lawyers comes after the indifference of the justice institutions which after the violence against Mangjesi did not react to give strong messages that the figure of the legal defenders should be respected.
They also criticize the justice reform, which they say has brought a series of problems and is not what the lawyers expected.
Despite the criticism of the justice system, which, according to the lawyers, has not protected their interests, Maks Haxhia said that all lawyers with a criminal past will be screened for self-cleansing in their ranks.
