Strong security measures in all prisons and detention centers in the country, due to the parliamentary elections to be held on Sunday, May 11.

To avoid possible criminal events, such as escapes or other cases, as well as to guarantee the smooth running of the voting process within the institutions for serving sentences, the Prison Police, in cooperation with the State Police, have increased security measures.

Sources at the General Directorate of Prisons told News24 that the same practices are followed in every election campaign in order to guarantee order and security.

In prisons and detention centers in the country, 3,087 convicts or detainees have the right to vote.

Meanwhile, the names of convicted or pre-trial detainees who are not allowed by the Electoral Code to exercise their right to vote due to criminal offenses for which they have been convicted or are currently under investigation have been removed from the lists.
