The US Embassy in Tirana has reacted for the first time to the indictment of the government's number 2, Belinda Balluku, who has also been suspended from duty by a decision of the GJKKO.

Stressing that it does not comment on matters under investigation, the US Embassy says that the independence of the judiciary is essential for cooperation between the two countries.

The US Embassy has consistently appreciated the work of SPAK and has continuously assisted the new justice bodies in our country.

"The independence of justice institutions in Albania remains essential to continued US-Albania cooperation in the fight against transborder crime. We have no comment on ongoing legal matters," the US Embassy said in a response to Report TV.
