Inter won the Italian Cup final against Lazio (0-2) in a dominated match, but also conditioned by serious mistakes by the white and blues. “Absolute supremacy!”… was said in the Mediaset studio by moderator Monica Bertini, who praised the great season of the black and blues, who rose after the disappointment of last year when they were left without a trophy and saw Napoli snatch the title from them in the last week. Christian Panucci, the former coach of the Albanian national team, went against the tide and curbed the enthusiasm, giving – according to him – the real dimension to what the team of coach Chivu has done.
"Inter had the season they were supposed to have - the former defender said directly -. But in Europe they didn't..." His criticism was clear: he didn't like the overly enthusiastic tone to exalt something that for a team like Inter should be normal, namely winning trophies.
And according to him, all this pathos is exaggerated. "The moral blow after last year? They all took it in football, but no one went to intensive therapy..." . He explained it better a little later, while the images of the black-and-blue celebration continued in the background: "Here it seems like we are always pampering this team after last year's losses, come on... and I repeat: they did not end up in the hospital in intensive therapy!".
Panucci insisted and emphasized the concept with another reflection that sounded like a different note from the triumphalist atmosphere: "It seems to me that they always want to defend the team after a defeat... they are strong players and they play for Inter, it is normal that they have to win. But football is like this: you can lose and then you get up and win. It seems like they have performed a miracle, but it doesn't seem like that to me."
A strong opinion from the former coach of the red and black national team, Panucci. He then explained that his judgment was not negative and that he appreciated the black and blue team's season, but according to him, the narrative about this team should be returned to its proper dimensions. "If I have to give a grade, for me the season is 8.5 - he added at the end - but in Europe they have done badly (the reference is to the two losses against Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League). And the first objective cannot be the championship".
