Alleged links to Abramović, Dutch FA strips Vitesse of points: Club drops one
speed

The adventure in the Dutch football elite has taken a heavy blow for Vitesse. After 35 years at the highest level of football, the club is relegated after being punished with the deduction of 18 points.

It all has to do with the lack of information requested by the Dutch Football Federation about the club's activities, failing to fulfill the requirements.

The federation accused the club of providing incorrect information and concealing it during investigations to determine whether the club violated international sanctions against Russia.

The Arnhem-based club have been rumored in the past for deep links with Russian Roman Abramovich. The team has not yet had its license revoked, a fact that allows it to participate in professional football leagues in the Netherlands. However, the club could face additional penalties as it remains under investigation for other potential violations.

With 4 games until the end of the season, Vitesse already has minus 1 point, which does not allow them to claim survival. In 2017, the team won the Dutch Cup for the first time. They will now return to the Dutch second tier for the first time since 1989.
