From former member of the government in Albania, to candidate for mayor in Kosovo.

Besa Shahini, former Minister of Education, announced that she will run in the local elections for the municipality of Pristina.

"It is a city mostly covered in concrete, without enough green spaces, mostly dirty and not very good for children. Pristina needs a radical change and a different direction of development. I want to be part of this change, so in the fall I will run for mayor in the 2025 local elections," said Shahini.

She said that four years ago she returned to live in Pristina from Tirana, but the city "has taken a wrong direction in its development."

Regarding the local elections, media in Kosovo write that President Vjosa Osmani has planned to hold an important political meeting with the aim of setting the date.

Besa Shahini was part of the "Rama 2" government. She took office as Minister of Education, Sports and Youth in 2019. She held this post for more than a year, and was succeeded by Evis Kushi.

Shahini, after returning to Kosovo, has been engaged in civil society activities and is part of the Social Democratic Party of Kosovo.
