On September 15, the elected mayor of the Municipality of Himara, Fredi Beleri, must be dismissed by Prime Minister Edi Rama and new elections announced.
It is the deadline of 90 days from the date of the election, if a mayor fails to take the oath, which most likely will not happen.
But Prime Minister Edi Rama has left a window open to the pressures of the official Ahitna, implying that Beleri may not be dismissed by him.
During an interview for ERT, Rama said that the Albanian law foresees the dismissal of Beler 90 days after he failed to take the oath, however he added that "this is a very specific case".
In order to see other ways in which he can act, apparently not to "spoil the fun" in Athens, Rama said that he has turned to the legal department to get an opinion.
It remains to be seen if any legal "trick" will be found by the department's experts, which would be in Beler's favor. However, Rama added that in the end it is justice that will determine whether Beler is innocent or not.
"If I'm not mistaken, Mr. Goro belongs to the minority, this is one more reason to shrug. Because Mr. Goro, who has represented the party that I represent as mayor, shows that there is no clash between Albanians and Greeks here. There is a completely reasonable and normal coexistence, which has given thousands and thousands of titles to constructions without permission. Today, minority churches have different ownership, because they lived naked during the communist period.
Threats to Albania's path, while the government has no possibility to grant permission to a prisoner, is completely inconsistent with sovereignty, even with European coexistence, which are democratic countries and where one cannot ignore instead of showing the other how it can work. We are studying the case, because when the 90-day period ends, the government must dismiss the president who has not been sworn in, and call for elections, but this is a very specific case and I have asked the legal department to give an opinion that what should we do. I would pray that we leave it to the judicial process to say whether he is guilty or not", declared Rama.
