Rama promises to open a consulate for Albanians in Crete

Prime Minister Edi Rama has promised to open a consulate for Albanians on the Greek island of Crete.

Rama said that no more than a year from now, an Albanian consulate will open its doors there.

"I know how you feel when they tell you that you have to go to Athens. Next year we will open a consulate in Crete. You don't have to flee to Athens. The Albanian state will come to you," Rama said.

 Rama invited the Albanians gathered at a meeting with him to vote for the Socialist Party in the May 11 elections, stating that a vote for him is a vote for a European Union passport, which would eliminate the need for thousands of Albanians to wait indefinitely to obtain Greek documents.
