Klodiana Spahiu at the Balkan Leadership Conference 2026: Albania has taken

The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Klodiana Spahiu, joined this Friday the 2026 Balkan Leadership Conference "Media Freedom, Democracy & Digital Governance in the Western Balkans", where the focus was on the challenges facing the media today.

In her speech, Spahiu summarized the legal framework, while also highlighting the work done by the AMA in recent times.

"Today we live in an era where information circulates instantly and anyone can create and distribute texts, photos and videos, while algorithms automatically amplify them. Artificial intelligence has simplified this process even further. The pace of technology exceeds our ability for critical analysis and this is the real challenge of our era", - said Spahiu, while also focusing on the initiatives undertaken by the Parliament to curb disinformation and further increase transparency.

"The Assembly has also undertaken concrete initiatives: the Media Hub project, a multimedia television newsroom within the Assembly, and the system of transcription and subtitles of plenary sessions, implemented for two months now, are clear examples of transparency in action," Spahiu added.

For Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Klodiana Spahiu, cooperation between politics, media and civil society must be complete as a step against disinformation.

"Technology advances at a pace that legislation can hardly keep up with. But Albania has taken concrete steps and their full implementation requires active cooperation between politics, the media and civil society. The media is the fourth estate, but this estate also carries responsibility. The influence of journalists and communication professionals becomes much stronger when supported by fact-based reporting, transparency and editorial independence, values that even European law today expressly protects. Because the objective should not be "completely independent" media, but professional and responsible media", - concluded Klodiana Spahiu.
