Democratic Party MP Tomor Alizoti stated today in the plenary session in the Parliament that Prime Minister Edi Rama was violating the Constitution of Albania by avoiding interpellations for accountability.
While requesting the arrival of the majority leader to answer the opposition's questions about the issues raised, he explained that Albania has entered a dictatorship, where even the head of the executive ignores the law.
"I am recalling Article 80 of the Constitution so that the Prime Minister may not evade interpellation, the Constitution determines the foundation of the state. And when the Prime Minister violates the basic article, which is the Constitution, imagine what happens. There are many honorable gentlemen who want to discuss with the Prime Minister of the country. Tell us whether Albania is a Parliamentary Republic or not," he said, among other things.
The opposition lawmaker added that the law and the Constitution are designed to prohibit "the lust of leaders," because otherwise we have a dictatorship.
"Through the law, the leader's lust is prohibited and when the leader rejects the law then we have a dictatorship. Are we in a dictatorship? We are openly in a dictatorship. Even these gentlemen should say that we are openly in a dictatorship. The Prime Minister is violating the law, he is violating the Constitution. You have the right to explain why the Prime Minister is not coming to the interpellation, it has to do with the state, with the constitution. Where does the Prime Minister of Albania get the right to violate the Constitution of Albania, please give me an answer", said Alizoti.
Deputy Speaker Klodjana Spahiu responded by explaining that the answer would be received during the time when the requested interpellations with the Prime Minister take place.
"As the interpellations develop, you will also receive the response from the Prime Minister," she said.
