In the race for the May 21 parliamentary elections in Greece, 38 parties, 10 coalitions and two independent candidates for parliament have been registered, twice as many as in the 2019 elections, when Greeks had 24 parties and electoral coalitions on the voting lists.

Polls so far show that the New Democracy Party of Prime Minister Mitsotakis, although it ranks ahead of the left-wing party "Syriza" of the former Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras, is not expected to receive enough votes to secure the new government majority alone. Voting according to a new system of proportional representation in the Hellenic parliament with 300 seats of deputies will also affect this.

Two Albanian candidates are competing for parliament in Athens with the left parties, Fatos Malaj with Pasok and Adiljan Koxhaj with Syrizan. More than 500 thousand Albanians live in Greece. Although not all of them vote, the union of their votes can introduce for the first time since 1991 when the exodus began, an Albanian immigrant in the most important Greek institution.

Out of almost 9.9 million voters, a total of 430,000 young people between the ages of 17 and 21 will vote for the first time, but 40% of them are undecided about which party they will vote for. Prime Minister Mitsotakis has promised to increase wages by 25% within four years, so that the average wage will reach 1,500 euros.

Mitsotakis' government has faced popular revolts following the deadly Tempi train crash on February 28, which killed 57 people and injured 85 others. After this tragic accident, the Minister of Transport resigned, while the government of Mitsotakis, which has faced problems such as high food prices and the scandal of wiretapping of opposition politicians, clearly fell.
