'La Stampa' uncovers details from Melon's vacation in Vlora

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has been in the city of Vlora since Monday, from where she traveled by ferry from Brindisi, accepting the invitation for a private vacation from her counterpart Edi Rama.

Although it was initially reported that it would be a one-day visit, according to the Italian newspaper 'La Stampa', which has provided the only video from Meloni's vacation on the shores of Dhërmi, the prime minister is expected to leave on Thursday.

The prestigious Italian woman revealed the details of Meloni's visit, raising doubts about a private dinner attended by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and the mayor of Vlora, Ermal Dredha.

La Stampa article :

It was supposed to be a one-day trip, but instead it turned into a four-day Albanian holiday, on the emerald beaches of the Adriatic coast, between Vlora and Dhërmi.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's stay in the land of eagles must end today, for her and her family, daughter Ginevra and partner Andrea Giambruno, brother-in-law and one-time Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida and her sister Arianna, plus several close associates.

A very private visit, which only a few tourists have been able to film. And this required impressive security measures, from land and sea. There were also no meetings with the Italian resident community, and the movements were only by sea, with a luxury motorboat, to prevent any journalist or curiosity from approaching him. The Prime Minister was invited by her colleague Edi Rama.

And it was all a round trip across the sea to explore the country's beautiful and not exactly pristine beaches. For them - as the Albanians themselves joke - "this year they are colonized by you, we only hear Italian being spoken, we can't stand you anymore!".

Arrival was on Monday. Meloni's team moved with the ferry of the Greek company Starlines, but the service is managed by Albanians, who would not have known it, say some sources. Rama himself had come down to welcome him to the port of Vlora, who had repeatedly invited him to public events in recent months, and finally the visit took place. The transfer made under the escort of blue cars to the summer villa, while waiters and servants were seen several times going in and out of the residence.

And then, the journey to the South. Yesterday, a large speedboat arrived to pick them up. Direction - Dhërmiu - where Edi Rama has his summer villa.

And it is thought that there was also a meeting with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, now Rama's lobbyist and consultant, who arrived in Albania on Sunday by helicopter, as he has done for several years. He lived in Himarë, very close to Dhërmi, but the dinner with the two prime ministers took place in Vlorë, where the mayor of the city was also invited. And then, Blair is gone again.

Very few images of the prime minister, published exclusively by La Stampa, were filmed by tourists who saw the motorboat come and go. This is undoubtedly the Albanian summer, with a boom of 6.5 million vacationers, of which half a million are from our country alone. It was Rama himself who celebrated, dismissing it with an ironic post, where he compared in a photomontage the crowd of Italians getting off the ships with the desperate Albanians who landed on our shores in '91 from the famous "Vlora".

Before Meloni, even the Albanian singer Dua Lipa had chosen Dhërmi for summer relaxation. In the footage of the prime minister's motorboat under Rama's residence, someone can be heard commenting: "Now we understand why all this police, they also come by raft from Brindisi".

In Vlora, where the Prime Minister stayed yesterday and where she will meet Rama again today to say hello. Almost 5000 Italians live there. The headquarters of the consulate general is also located there. But during the prime minister's very private holidays, there was no chance to organize meetings with any of them.

However, between dinners and diving in the sea, the Albanian visit was not only an opportunity to relax. There are many open files to share with the colleague from Tirana. Starting with the TAP pipeline, part of the southern gas corridor, which transports natural gas from the Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijan to Lecce and then to Europe. The desire to double the booster pumps is under discussion.

But the other issue on the table is the project for a water pipeline that should reach Apulia from Gjirokastra. Albania is mainly powered by renewable energy. But it is no less rich in fossil fuels, such as oil. Eni has a large contract and will start drilling for gas and oil onshore from next year. It's even better for Shell, which has started a 5 billion investment in Rrëshen, above Tirana, for oil extraction. It seems that Prime Minister Meloni has also asked her colleague Rama for support for Rome's candidacy for organizing the Expo.

Finally, there is a project before the current government that would like to build a nuclear power plant in Albania, but with Italian investment.

Between geopolitical issues, one for the entire stability of the Balkans, with Albania a great ally of the West, and economic ones, Meloni and Rama are already much more than partners.

Special friends, "the brother of Italy and the sister of Albania", as he joked in an interview with La Stampa. Soon we will also know what the holidays between the crystal waters of Vlora and Dhërmi brought about in terms of economics and geostrategy.
