Erion Veliaj: Criminal charges filed today against "Nesti Angoni" and "Nasta Pëllumbi", who do not exist

Mayor Erion Veliaj has reacted from prison, following a complaint he made against his accusers.

According to him, they are two people who do not exist.

Veliaj says that in the case of "Nesti Angoni", we are not dealing with an anonymous report, but with a simulation of a real reporter, materialized with a name and signature, with the aim of creating artificial credibility before the prosecution.

Today I filed a criminal complaint against two non-existent "reporters" "Nesti Angoni" and "Nasta Pëllumbi", through which I request the investigation of the document that served as the basis for initiating criminal proceedings against me.

In my report, filed with the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, I have referred to the fact that criminal proceedings No. 27/2024 were initiated on the basis of a document signed by a person calling himself "Nesti Angoni", who, according to official verifications, does not exist in the civil status registers.

At the core of my complaint is the claim that we are not dealing with an anonymous report, but with a simulation of a real complainant, materialized with a name and signature, with the aim of creating an artificial credibility before the prosecution. According to the document, this constitutes not only forgery, but also a direct interference in the mechanism of initiating criminal prosecution, since on this basis investigative actions with concrete legal consequences have been undertaken.

One of the strongest points of the report filed by me is related to the standard that SPAK itself has publicly announced: only reports that meet the formal and procedural criteria can be registered as such. However, in this case, this standard was acted against, by artificially elevating to the rank of a valid criminal report a document that was not presented as a criminal report, has the form of information and is related to a false identity.

This raises a direct question: "Why only in this case has it deviated from the standard that SPAK itself has announced?"

My report also highlights the existence of a second, similar material, linked to another unverifiable identity, “Nasta Pellumbi.” According to the argument, this situation raises strong suspicions of a common source, a single author using different identities, or a structured mechanism for creating artificial reports.

The document emphasizes that the issue has not only a criminal dimension, but also an institutional one. The use of a false identity to initiate criminal prosecution against an elected official, according to the report made by me, produces consequences that go beyond the individual. In the report, I explain that such an intervention has affected the functioning of public institutions, violated the balances created by democratic votes and requires a full investigation of the goals and interests behind it.

In conclusion, I requested the registration of a criminal proceeding for document forgery, the identification of the real author of the document, and a full investigation of the circumstances that led to the initiation of criminal proceedings against me.
