Darth Vader's iconic sword, used in the "Star Wars" films - A New Hope (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983) - has been sold for $3.6 million (about 3 million euros) at the Propstore auction in Los Angeles, breaking last year's record and becoming the most valuable object ever from this cinematic saga.
Among over 400 other items at the auction, the Spider-Man costume worn by Tobey Maguire in the 2002 film was sold for $289,800; the famous Platform 9 ¾ sign from the Harry Potter films for $138,600; the neuralyzer device from Men In Black (1997) for $315,000; and a shark tooth, used during the filming of Jaws (1975), for $94,500.
"To see a Star Wars sword - a symbol of one of cinema's greatest sagas - become the most valuable object ever sold is something incredibly special," he said, adding that this success demonstrates the enduring cultural power of "Star Wars" and the passion of fans for these artifacts.
