Geoffrey Hinton

Geoffrey Hinton, one of the founders of artificial intelligence and Nobel Prize winner, has given unusual advice to young people: not to pursue only technological careers, but to orient themselves towards practical professions.

"If you're thinking about what to study, become a plumber," he declared, emphasizing that manual professions are much more difficult to be replaced by machines.

According to Hinton, who is a professor at the University of Toronto, artificial intelligence is advancing at a frightening speed, putting millions of jobs related to the information sector at risk. While large companies like OpenAI and Google are developing increasingly advanced models, experts warn that their impact on the job market could be unpredictable.

"We are creating systems that can become more intelligent than us and that do not necessarily share our values," Hinton warned in an interview with BBC News.

However, he hopes that collaboration between the world's leading scientists can help control this technology. For Hinton, the balance between innovation and ethics is essential: if clear boundaries are not set, artificial intelligence could change the way humanity works and lives.
