Well-known sports presenter Laura Woods has reacted after the terrifying moments on Tuesday when she fainted live on screen during the broadcast of England women's match against Ghana.
Woods, 38, who became a mother in January with the birth of her son Leo, was immediately taken to the stadium by medical staff. In a statement later posted on Instagram, she assured the public that she is fine and recovering.
“It was a little strange,” she wrote. “I’m sorry to bother you. I’m fine. The doctors told me it’s most likely a virus – just needs some rest and hydration.”
She thanked the ITV team for their support during the incident, as well as colleagues Ian Wright and Alex Scott (“Wrighty and Neets”), who immediately responded to catch her before she fell to the ground.
Woods was listening to Ian Wright's analysis before kick-off when he suddenly collapsed. The camera immediately cut to a wide shot of the stadium, and then ITV cut to commercials.
After returning, the moderator was replaced by colleague Katie Shanahan, who reassured viewers: "As you may have noticed, Laura has been feeling unwell. She is in safe hands and doing well. We send her all our love."
Woods' fiancé, Adam Collard, also released a statement urging fans not to worry: "Laura is doing very well and is with the right people. Thank you for all your beautiful messages."
