Renowned Canadian actress Catherine O'Hara, who won the hearts of audiences with her roles in the series "Schitt's Creek" and in classic Christmas films such as "Home Alone" and "Home Alone 2," has died at the age of 71.

The news was first reported by TMZ, which cited sources close to the actress confirming her death, while O'Hara's manager also confirmed the news to Variety, saying the actress passed away after a "short illness."

The exact cause of death, however, remains unclear.

O'Hara was a two-time Emmy Award winner and one of the most prominent figures to emerge from the Second City comedy troupe, along with the late actor John Candy.

Her career took off in the late 1980s and early 1990s, with memorable roles as Delia Deetz in the film “Beetlejuice” (1988) and as Kevin McCallister's mother in “Home Alone”.

In addition to these, she also starred in Tim Burton's film "The Nightmare Before Christmas", as well as in "Dick Tracy" with Warren Beatty.

A major comeback in her career came with the role of Moira Rose in "Schitt's Creek," which earned her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

In recent years, O'Hara has also dabbled in voice acting, lending her voice to the Disney Pixar animated film "Elemental" and "The Addams Family" (2019). Most recently, she reprised her role as Delia in the sequel "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice" with Jenna Ortega.

Catherine O'Hara's death leaves a huge void in the world of cinema and television, where she remains unforgettable for her humor, talent and charisma.
