The election campaign for local elections in Kosovo officially begins today, and will last until October 12, when citizens will head to the ballot boxes. This was announced by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), which has set the official campaign period.
Most political parties have announced the launch of their campaigns today in the capital, Pristina, with activities that will take place in some of the most popular public and cultural spaces.
Meanwhile, the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) has been criticized for holding an electoral event last night, before the official start of the campaign. Critics say this action evades institutional oversight, as the pre-campaign period is not legally regulated.
The spokesperson for the Central Election Commission, Valmir Elezi, explained to KosovaPress that the election campaign for 93 political entities with over 5,600 candidates will take place from today until 06:59 on October 12.
He spoke about the legal prohibitions and restrictions during the election campaign period that political entities and their supporters must respect.
"The Law on General Elections has defined a series of prohibited actions for political entities, candidates and their supporters during the election campaign. These prohibitions are mainly related to not hindering the campaign of the political opponent and the strict prohibition of threats and violence during the election process. In general, according to the law, the campaign must take place in a calm, respectful, democratic atmosphere, without hate speech, without intimidation and distanced from any form of violence," said Elezi.
