The Federal Prosecutor's Office in Germany announced the arrest of a man suspected of belonging to the " Reich Citizens " organization and planning assassinations of politicians, according to information from ARD, SWR, n-tv and Der Spiegel .

Among them are former chancellors Olaf Scholz and Angela Merkel .

According to two German public networks, the 49-year-old, arrested on Monday evening in Dortmund, had recently been trying to organize attacks via the " darknet ".

On the website he had created, called " The Politics of Murder ," the suspect explained his plan.

Initially, his followers were supposed to donate money in cryptocurrencies, as a " capture reward ", to professionals who would then undertake the assassination of " opposing " politicians.

Authorities are treating the case as a " criminal terrorist financing scheme " and the federal prosecutor general, Jens Rommel , has taken responsibility for this  .

As ARD reports, the arrested person had been known to the authorities since 2020, when as a member of the Reich Citizens, an organization that does not recognize the German state, he participated in protests against the restrictive pandemic measures and his recent activities on the darknet were discovered by the Federal Service for the Protection of the Constitution.

Martin Sh. , reports the private network n-tv, is German-Polish and had published on his website " death sentences " that he had imposed himself, information about " sensitive personal data " of potential victims, as well as instructions for building explosives, while according to Spiegel.

The list of " death rowers " included more than 20 names of politicians , including former chancellors Olaf Scholz and Angela Merkel , as well as former federal ministers.

As the magazine points out, the term Assassination Politics refers to a text by radical American anti-government activist Jim Bell , who in the 1990s argued in favor of a hypothetical online marketplace through which assassinations of corrupt government officials could be anonymously financed.
