The 4 children were found by the police after a month of being in the jungle

Four children have been found alive in the Amazon jungle more than a month after their plane crashed. According to Colombian police officials they survived by eating cassava flour (a plant cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions for its edible starchy root tubers and a major source of carbohydrates).

The children ate about 3 kilograms of cassava flour commonly used by indigenous tribes in the Amazon region.

Officials point out that the children survived because of their indigenous origins, as they had knowledge of the jungle, knowing what to eat and what not to eat, and finding water kept them alive, which would not have been possible if they were not used to that kind of hostile environment.

They were transported to a hospital in the Colombian capital Bogota and are out of danger.

Their mother died in a plane crash on May 1, leaving them alone and stranded in the Amazon jungle.
More than 100 Colombian special forces troops and over 70 indigenous scouts were engaged in a massive search operation.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who visited the children in hospital on Saturday, said their survival "will be remembered in history". "They are children of the jungle and now they are children of Colombia," said Petro.
