Kosovo will be represented by nine athletes in four different sports at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, which will be held from July 26 to August 11 in the French capital.
The Kosovo Olympic team is dominated by the sport of judo as usual, as five judokas are part of the team, the Kosovo Olympic Committee (KOK) announced.
The list is headed by the Olympic champions, judokas Distria Krasniqi and Nora Gjakova, then three other judokas, Laura Fazliu, Akil Gjakova and Loriana Kuka.
This is the third consecutive Olympics that Kosovo aims to win gold medals, after the historic debut of Majlinda Kelmendi in Rio 2016 in Brazil, when she was declared the Olympic champion and the gold medals of Distria Krasniqi and Nora Gjakova in Tokyo 2020.
Krasniqi, together with Kelmendi and Nora Gjakova, are the only athletes, either in women's or men's sports, who have won Olympic gold medals in the history of Kosovar sports.
The other athletes who will represent Kosovo in Paris are Donjeta Sadiku in bosque, Gresa Bakraqi in athletics, and Hana Beiqi and Adell Sabovic in swimming.
That all the judokas and Sadik from boxing secured participation after fulfilling the Olympic norm, while the other three athletes received an invitation.
Hana Beiqi, 14 years old from Pristina, has been preparing for her debut participation in the Olympic Games for four years. She told Radio Free Europe years ago that she dreamed of participating in the Olympics.
The Summer Olympics are held every four years and are regarded as the world's preeminent multi-sport individual and team competition.
