The Catholic Church has recently asked the government institutions, the Assembly and the Council of Ministers, to draft and approve a law that would prohibit the use of communist symbols.

According to this proposal, punishment is also provided for what is described as "crime of apology". So, prohibition by law of the "glorification" of the dictator Enver Hoxha and communism.

Referring to this proposal, the historian Pëllumb Xhufi, invited to the show "Albanian Life" on RTSH 1, stated that such an initiative is not at all within the Catholic Church's purview.

"It is not in the nature of the Church. I have even told colleagues who defended the position of the Church in this case, to take an example from the Holy See. The Holy See does not have such wild ideological positions against communism, against fascism, against Nazism.

This is not the role of the Church to establish order in the secular world. There is another mission. This is completely contrary to nature and the teachings of Jesus Christ or the 10 commandments of Moses. As for the head of the Church, there is another problem that they are foreigners", said Xhufi.

In its proposal, the Catholic Church also demands that the prisons of communism be turned into museums, history textbooks be rewritten and Albanian films produced during the dictatorial regime of Enver Hoxha be restricted.
