Utah Governor Spencer Cox told US media that Charlie Kirk's suspected killer is "not cooperating" with authorities and has not admitted to committing the crime.
Suspect Tyler Robinson, 22, was taken into custody about 33 hours after Kirk, a 31-year-old right-wing activist, was shot dead.
Speaking to ABC News, Cox said the perpetrator's close associates had cooperated with the investigation. Cox appeared on various US media outlets on Sunday morning, where he also reiterated concerns about social media following Kirk's death.
The governor was also asked about a New York Times report that claimed Tyler Robinson had spoken to others after the shooting via the messaging platform Discord.
"What we can confirm is that those conversations were definitely happening, and they didn't believe it was actually him. It was a joke until he admitted it was actually him ," Cox said.
Robinson was arrested Thursday evening after surrendering to police.
Kirk was speaking at Utah Valley University at an open house event held by Turning Point USA — the organization he co-founded — when he was shot and killed.
Cox previously told the Wall Street Journal that Tyler Robinson was "deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology."
When asked about it during CNN's "State of the Union" program on Sunday, he said the information was provided by the suspect's friends and family.
"There's a lot more we're learning and a lot more details we'll learn," he explained, adding that when formal charges are filed, there will be "a lot more evidence and information available," added Gov. Spencer Cox.
