What will happen? Meloni calls for STRONG Europe: We must strengthen our own
Giorgia Meloni

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni closed her party's annual rally with calls not only to defend her government's achievements, but also to Europe to strengthen its defense capabilities, especially at a time when Donald Trump's administration is sending signals of a change in its security strategy, and a possible withdrawal from commitments to the old continent.

From Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome, Meloni stated that Trump had made it clear that the US intends to secede from Europe and that Europeans must be prepared.

"Trump has stated very firmly that the United States intends to secede and Europeans must organize to defend themselves. For eighty years we have handed over our security to the US pretending that it was free, but there was a price to pay and this price is called conditionality. Freedom has a price," said Meloni.

Meloni's comments come amid tensions between the EU and the Trump administration. The Italian prime minister rejected claims that there is a rift in relations between the United States and the European Union.

However, he again appealed for a stronger European defense structure, capable of engaging with global powers on equal terms.
