The head of the UK Armed Forces has issued a stark warning about the growing threat posed by Russia, stating that there is a real possibility that Moscow could attack Britain.

According to Sky News, Sir Richard Knighton said that the country's "sons and daughters" must be prepared to fight if the situation requires it.

In an unusually direct intervention, Knighton stressed that Russian military strength is growing and that Russia's army is already "battle-worn" after nearly four years of all-out war in Ukraine.

According to him, this makes the threat more serious than ever before during his military career.

"The situation is more dangerous than I have ever known in my career, and the price of peace is rising," he declared.

The Chief of Defence Staff stressed that the British armed forces, together with NATO allies, will always be the first line of defence, but warned that this is not enough.

He called for a whole-of-society approach that goes beyond the military.

"We need to be honest with families and with every family in the UK about what it means to be prepared for a range of real and physical threats," Knighton said.

He said that the country must invest not only in strengthening the military, but also in rebuilding defense industrial capacities, developing professional skills, strengthening institutions, and increasing the resilience of society and critical infrastructure.

Referring to statements by his French counterpart, General Fabien Mandon, Knighton said he agreed with the idea that European countries should be prepared for human sacrifices in the event of war. “Sons and daughters. Colleagues. Veterans… everyone will have a role to play – to build, to serve and, if necessary, to fight,” he said.
