Serbia-Montenegro gets us 50,000 tourists, we lose 200,000 euros a day

Albania will lose about 40,000 euros this year, following the decision by the airline Israir to cancel all flights to Albania and divert its destinations to Montenegro and Serbia.

The company's decision has arrived after agreed with these two countries to subsidise it by 50 euros for every tourist sent there.

According to tourist actors and the Albanian Tourist Union this was warned by them, as the government closed its ears in the face of their demands for incentive policies to attract tourists.

This means that the tourist market in Montenegro will be added this year to about 50 thousand more tourists, which could well have taken our country if the Albanian Government had applied the promotional policies.

The figure of 50,000 tourists may seem low and that for a 50 euro subsidy for every high tourist. But, estimating how much the average day-to-day spending of foreign tourists in Albania was in 2018, our country loses millions of euros from this decision.

According to 2018 data, a foreign tourist spends around 80 euros a day in our country, and Israir's decision alone causes a daily damage to 200,000 euros in this case.

The Albanian government is thin in this direction, as apart from Serbia and Montenegro, north Macedonia is also in talks with several companies to draft policies to promote the rapprochement of tourists.
