Poland becomes the sixth largest economy in the EU

Poland's economy is gaining more and more weight in Europe. In 2025, Poland ranked sixth in the European Union in terms of economic size, accounting for about 5% of the bloc's economy.

According to Eurostat data, Poland's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached 922.9 billion euros in 2025. It is ranked ahead of Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.

Germany remains the EU's largest economy with a GDP of around 4.47 trillion euros, followed by France with 2.99 trillion, Italy with 2.26 trillion, Spain with 1.69 trillion and the Netherlands with 1.17 trillion euros.

Poland is also the largest economy in Central and Eastern Europe. For comparison, Romania had a GDP of €380.1 billion in 2025, the Czech Republic €347.3 billion and Hungary €218.8 billion.

The growth of the Polish economy is linked to the development of industry, increased exports, consumption and investment. In 2025, the Polish economy grew by 3.6%, while the EU economy as a whole grew by 1.5%.

However, the size of the economy does not necessarily mean that citizens have a higher standard of living. When GDP is calculated per capita, Poland continues to be below the EU average. According to Eurostat, GDP per capita in Poland in 2025 was less than 85% of the European Union average.
