Businesses received less loans in May, led by lending to wholesale and retail trade

According to official figures published by the Bank of Albania, the total value of new loans granted by banks for financing at the level of non-financial corporations during the month of May has decreased by 5% compared to a month ago. 45% of sectors contributed negatively to this decline.

"Scan Intel" has analyzed the figures to understand how the lending for each sector is presented during the 5th month of this year. According to the data, it results that the incoming cash flows at the level of new loans were higher in the manufacturing and construction industry sector. Specifically, the new loan for these sectors is fixed at 4.9 billion ALL and 3.9 billion ALL, respectively. The figures show that these sectors have followed a trend similar to 55% of other sectors that have also shown an expansion of their loan portfolio.

If we calculate what part of the total loan is distributed to each sector, we find that the largest part is taken by "Wholesale and retail trade" with 35.2%, followed by "Manufacturing industry" with 18.2% and "Construction" with 16.6% %. This ranking remains unchanged from the first 4 months of the year. On the contrary, sectors such as "Financial and insurance activities" and "Real estate activities" each account for 0.5% of the total, with the lowest level of new credit during May.

Meanwhile, if we analyze the expansion of the portfolio for each sector in annual terms, the figures say that "Transportation and storage" had the highest growth with 274.5% and "Financial and insurance activities" expanded the portfolio with 119.5%. On the other hand, "Trade", although ranked as one of the sectors with the highest level of lending in annual terms, has increased financing by 62.7%, while "Construction" has decreased by 0.7%.
