Kosovo Women's Network: The sentence is not proportional to the gravity of the crime
After the verdict was pronounced, the Kosovo Women's Network said that the sentence of 18 years in prison "is not proportional to the gravity of the crime" and the seriousness of the circumstances.
Through a reaction on social media, this network said that this murder is gender-motivated, femicide, emphasizing that the killing of women because of their gender is the most serious violation of the right to life and requires maximum punishment.
"Such sentences risk normalizing violence against women and sending a message that women's lives are worth less. We demand that courts clearly recognize the gender motive and apply the highest standards of punishment. Justice must be real, proportional and ruthless towards femicide," the reaction said.
The Kosovo Women's Network assists victims of gender-based violence by providing free legal advice and assistance.
