Seven young Spanish tourists have been rescued after an incident that occurred about 100 meters below the Peshtura canyon in southern Albania. Sources at the scene indicate that all are in good health and that the rescue operation is nearing completion.
Three of the tourists had damaged their rope while descending a small waterfall at the bottom of the canyon, making it impossible for them to climb up without special equipment. Fortunately, none of them suffered any physical injuries.
The rescue operation involved the fire and police forces of Tepelena and Gjirokastra, who intervened in time to help the young people. The Spanish tourists were exploring the area without a licensed guide, increasing the risk in difficult terrain such as canyons.
This is not the first case of similar incidents in the south of the country. Unsafe explorations in the Nivica and Langarica canyons have previously led to similar situations, raising concerns about the safety of tourists and the need for professional guidance in dangerous natural areas.
