The Urban Waste Treatment Plant in Elbasan is in full operation and treats about 120 tons of urban waste from 7 municipalities of the district every day.

After a routine overhaul, work has started in this plant, which consists in the selection and then burning of waste, a process from which energy is produced.

While incinerators seem to have become the headlines of political accusations, the mayor of Elbasan remembers the time when urban waste was burned, poisoning the entire city.

"We have heard this period that the incinerator does not do, which is a joke. In fact, the incinerator is in operation today after a repair that has been done, it is in full operation. Treats waste by incineration. We have heard various accusations from the deputies of the pulpit in Elbasan, from the recycled deputies of the pulpit, who forget that the plant is working. We never forget how waste was treated in Elbasan and how it is treated today", says the head of the Municipality of Elbasan and socialist candidate for another mandate in this municipality", Gledian Llatja.

In 2016, Elbasan was the first municipality that provided a final solution to the problem of urban waste treatment. Earlier, the remains were burned right next to the city, which forced the City Council to declare a state of environmental emergency.

Now the plant is administered by the 7 municipalities of the district as a joint stock company which serves the entire district. The municipality of Elbasan, as the largest municipality of the district, enjoys the majority of the shares of the established company.
