Another scandal has been uncovered that shows how insecure we are about the foods we consume.
It is learned that palm sugar contaminated with the presence of the allergen sulfur dioxide above the maximum permitted level has been sold in our market.
The notification was made by the European Rapid Alert System for Food (RASFF) on April 10. The product is reported to be listed under the name Palmsugar slices TD bg 200g.
According to the announcement, the product was manufactured in Thailand. It arrived in Albania after being imported from the Netherlands by a company whose name is not disclosed by the AKU. The entire quantity of sugar of 24 kg has been sold.
"Upon receiving the notification from the RASFF system on 10.04.2025, the AKU carried out on-site verifications, which resulted in the product originating from Thailand being imported from the Netherlands on 22.12.2024 in a quantity of 24kg. The traceability verification results in the fact that the entity did not have this product in stock. The AKU has made the relevant notification to the RASFF Notifications category," the announcement published on the official website by the AKU states.
