Gëzim Prenga is a 54-year-old from Mirdita, who on March 15, 2023 was arrested by the police near Vora. He was wanted because there are 4 security measures against him in prison in absentia for the charge of defrauding oil tolls. Even before, he was convicted of fraud and served the sentence.
However, the family members have complained to the show Stop and claim that during his escort to the police station, some police officers assaulted him in the face. His brother, who is booked for this case, says that the 54-year-old has stitches in his head.
"They arrested my brother at the Lezhë police station for a criminal offense called fraud. His name is Gëzim Prenga, he is 54 years old. A week and a half ago, he called me and told me that a crime officer from Lezha is threatening me on a private street. I told him to give me his phone number so I can go and meet him on a private road, if you owe him we will answer. Otherwise, what does a crime officer have to do with picking you up and threatening you? He told me no. They arrested him at half past seven in Vora. He has not given me any reason that I have been separated from them for 25 years and he has been living on his job in Mirdita and I live in Tirana. I am the seventh, I am family. He was once convicted by justice for a criminal offense of fraud, from which they say I was not here at the time, and he served his sentence and got out."
His brother also shows photos of the violence against his brother by the Lezha Police.
"To beat me, to torture and mutilate me like this, I will never forgive, never. I ask for your help. Six police officers from Lezha who tortured and massacred him", he explains.
Stop's journalist went to the Vlora Police to request information about the allegations of violence, where he submitted a written request. In response, the Lezha Police say that 54-year-old Gëzim Prenga was injured during the police's attempt to arrest him, after he tried to escape. The Lezha Police informs that the 54-year-old man has refused to be treated and denies the fact that no violence was inflicted on him.
For all claims, the prosecutor of the case, Ylli Pjeternikaj, told Stop that all investigative actions will be taken to reach a conclusion.
