A joint operation between Albania and Italy led to the crackdown on a powerful criminal group based in Durrës.

What helped the authorities unravel it in detail was, in addition to various audio and environmental intercepts, the decrypted messages from the Sky ECC platform.

This was the innovation used by the justice institutions, who stated that as soon as they secured the messages, they shared them with each other, cross-referencing the information with the results of the investigation. This was also confirmed at the press conference by the prosecutor of the Special Prosecution Office, Vladimir Mara, who followed the investigations.

"In addition to data obtained from actions such as telephone interceptions, data from encrypted platforms was also immediately used," Mara said.

The Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate (DIA) explained that conversations between them on the app documented the connection of how cocaine was sent to Bari, mainly from Albania and Northern Europe.

These are large shipments, one of which alone contained 250 kilograms of pure cocaine and heroin.

In the same conversations, the "flow" of money from Puglia to Albania was also discovered. These are payments made by international bus drivers. According to DIA data, an amount of 4.5 million Euros was seized.

Authorities have also discovered, through wiretapped conversations, money transfers to pay for drugs, which took place in Bari for 500 thousand Euros.

The same amount was transferred in dollars from Albania to Latin America to purchase cocaine by ship from Guayaquil, Ecuador, and episodes of abuse of office have been recorded on Albanian territory.

These groups have been subject to legal action before. For example, 3 million Euros in cash were seized in Durrës, 30 kilograms of heroin and several laboratories in Bari, 2 tons of cocaine in Rotterdam, 932 kilograms of cocaine in the port of Gioia Tauro, and 400 kilograms of hashish in Bari.

In Albania, security measures have been issued for several members of the Troplini family, the most powerful family in Durrës, two police officers, a lawyer, and six international bus drivers.

As for the seizures, there are a total of nine apartments, seven bank accounts, six companies, including two commercial ones, three cars, four luxury restaurants, a real estate agency and a television. According to the DIA, their value reaches several million Euros.

Measures were taken against 12 Italians and 40 Albanians. 49 security measures are prison arrest, one is house arrest and one is an obligation to appear. As for Albania, the action was carried out in Durrës, Shkodër, Tirana, Fier and Vlora.
