Bad weather, Vengu warns of difficult days from Maliqi: Rainfall will resume,
Views from the floods in the country

The Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, was in the village of Sheqeras in Maliqi this Sunday to see up close the problems caused by the bad weather. In this area, there was a collapse of the embankment, making the work of the field forces difficult.

He announced that dump trucks are heading to the area to help with the large volumes required to cover the damage caused. He warned that the coming days will be difficult.

"There will be difficult days because the rains will resume, the ground is practically like a sponge and it is difficult to work in situations where the ground is very unstable and filled with water. However, we are increasing forces so that Maliqi does not have problems in the rains that will follow during the coming week," said Vengu.

The Minister announced that there are 15 damaged bridges nationwide, one of which has collapsed.

"They will require significant investment," Vengu said.

The Minister announced that the distribution of aid has begun in certain cases. The government, among other things, has asked municipalities to make their requests for livestock feed and concentrate for affected livestock farmers.

"These are the two most affected groups and our strategy is to stay close knowing that we will still have rainfall, we are not out of danger. It is simply a moment of sunshine that allows us to continue working in the field. We expect rainfall throughout the country with much lower intensity than the first three meteorological fronts, but we also expect the south to continue to have rainfall and the water basins in the south of the country will continue to have rainfall, so we are on full alert," said Vengu.

The minister indicated that it is still too early to take stock, but so far it appears that over 1,500 hectares of land are under water.

"Water levels are dropping across the country, and this gives us the opportunity to recover the embankments. There is a big difference between municipalities that have managed to make the necessary investments and those that have not been able to make investments. In the 2026 draft budget, we have a new approach in terms of supporting municipalities, especially those at higher risk for civil emergencies, by providing them with additional funds with a fairer distribution of investments than in the past," the minister added.
