Italian media with NAMES: Here are the Albanian drug "bosses",
Dorian Petoku “Dori”/ Altin Sinomati “Aldo”/ Arben Zogu

The green light for extradition has not yet been given for " Dori " Petoku and " Aldo " Sinomati.

Investigators fear that they continue to manage drug trafficking businesses.

Safe haven and vacation: for those seeking to escape justice, but also for those who should already be behind bars, having been arrested while on the run and yet continue to be free awaiting an extradition that never comes.

This hideout is in the United Arab Emirates, among the skyscrapers and luxury residences of Dubai, where three of the drug traffickers have been identified, whom Italian investigators consider among the most powerful operating in Rome, but who are now said to have taken the big step, directing the import-export of drugs between Europe and South America from above, taking advantage of the global economy and a highly advanced digital district.

Old familiar figures: some photographed in their youth in the Curva Nord stands of Lazio next to the late Fabrizio Piscitelli, "Diabolik", mercilessly killed with a bullet to the head in the Waterworks Park, on a hot August day almost eight years ago.

Others have returned to the news recently, involved in investigative files for some of the most brutal crimes of the Roman underworld, with links to the Camorra and the 'Ndrangheta.

The Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza and the police have been following them and their associates for years.

What happened to Albanians Dorian Petoku "Dori" and Altin Sinomati "Aldo" ? This is the question raised by MP Stefania Ascari (M5S), member of the anti-mafia committee, who has filed a parliamentary interpellation on this issue:

"For two of them, Dorian Petoku and Altin Sinomati, who have escaped Italian justice and have subsequently been located, there is no information on their detention status (or freedom) in that country. Analysts have well-founded fears that, precisely because of the freedom of movement that they are thought to continue to enjoy, they may continue to remotely direct the drug trafficking system that is hitting our country."

Petoku, after being convicted in the "Grande Raccordo Criminale" operation, remained in prison until November 2023. Then, while undergoing treatment in a community in Nola, he managed to disappear and escape to Dubai, where he was identified and arrested by the GICO of the Guardia di Finanza in July 2024: since then his extradition has been awaited.

An expectation that sounds like a mockery: Italian authorities had struggled for three years to secure his extradition from Albania in 2021.

In Dubai, in fact, Dori, cousin of Arben Zogu , known as "Riccardino" of the infamous group of Albanians of Ponte Milvio, friends of Diabolik, whom even figures like Massimo Carminati and his right-hand man Riccardo Brugia were afraid of ("they are completely wild, they take the pistol and shoot"), is a free man.

His passport has been confiscated and some minor restrictive measures have been imposed, but nothing that would really hinder his operational capacity.

Even Zogu himself (deported from Italian territory after serving part of his sentence in Italy) is said to be in Dubai.

Like Dori, Sinomati, considered the mastermind behind the murder of Selavdi Shehaj "Passerotto", which took place on Torvaianica beach in 2020, is also there.

According to prosecutors, he paid 150,000 euros to Raul Calderoni (convicted in the first instance as the material executor of Piscitelli's murder) to eliminate "Passerotto".

Struck by an arrest warrant in March 2025 along with boss Giuseppe Molisso, he had taken refuge in Dubai. There, the Carabinieri of the Via In Selci Investigation Unit located him in October of that same year.

"The failure to complete extradition procedures risks compromising the effectiveness of the fight against transnational organized crime," Ascari emphasizes, asking the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Justice "for further measures, also at the bilateral level, to ensure the swift surrender of these subjects to Italian justice."

Ascent

From afar, aided by the dark web, encrypted phones and well-organized cells in Italy, Germany and the Netherlands, Zogu and Petoku, according to investigators, continue to exert their criminal influence on the cocaine routes.

From street thugs and dealers, Albanians – with the approval of the Calabrians who trust them with their computer intelligence – have transformed into powerful international intermediaries in the field of drugs and money laundering.

Precisely for the latter, investigators have a thesis: the most powerful clans are looking beyond Rome, which is considered highly monitored by the Prosecutor's Office and investigative teams.

To attract less attention, they are pouring dirty money (with the help of secret Chinese banks) into other cities in Central-Northern Italy, primarily Florence.

Shops, but above all bars and restaurants: rivers of money that are "laundered" through a very dense network of front people./ IlMessaggero
