"We acted on instinct", Maria and Albana heroine in Italy, disarmed

"A hooded man appeared armed at Galluzzo's pharmacy in Florence. Two brave Albanians waited for the right moment, took her gun and forced her to run away," is the introductory description given by Corriere Della Sera to the story of two brave young women who turned into daily lifeguards in the neighboring country.

The thief waited in line for several minutes, wearing a hood and a scarf covering his face. Then, when it was his turn, he pointed the gun at the pharmacist, asking her to empty the case. The event happened two days ago when in the midst of panic Maria and Albana, two Albanian friends, pharmacy cleaners, found the strength to act instinctively and avoided the worst.

"I was cleaning the shelves near the entrance of the pharmacy," said Maria, 39 years old. "I saw from afar that the thief had pointed the gun at Dr. Elisas, I saw him lying under the counter, I was afraid that he might have died.

Then I saw that the robber had put the gun on the counter, I didn't think for a second, I instinctively went towards him trying to hurry but without being heard, I took the gun from the counter and ran towards him. When I left the pharmacy with a gun in my hand, he followed me."

Then there is a physical fight between Maria and the thief, Maria falls to the ground, throws the gun, in the meantime Albana enters the game, who takes the gun.

The thief then follows Albana through Piazza del Galluzzo, and then the Albanian woman throws the pistol on the asphalt, the robber takes it and disappears. Today, Maria and Albana are back at work at the Galluzzo pharmacy.

Maria is 39 years old, has been in Italy for 19 years, is married with three children. Albana has two children and has been in Italy for 23 years.

Both were born in Shkodër, they arrived very young in Italy to join their husbands.

"Ours may seem like a heroic gesture, but in reality we acted on instinct, a protective instinct towards ourselves and towards other customers of the pharmacy, there were many people at that moment, including a mother with a child of only 2 years old". - are expressed by the Albanians.

They still have those moments of panic in mind, "However, in these two nights we slept soundly", they joke.

Maria and Albana also addressed the robber with the words: "We want to tell him not to do such a thing again, but also to tell him that it is not worth destroying your life for a few hundred euros." Shall we forgive him? I don't think we are ready to forgive him."

And in the end they ask for a consideration: "Sometimes there are prejudices against foreigners who commit crimes, this time we are happy to have contributed to the disarmament of a criminal who sounded like Florentine in his accent".
