Selimi shines.

The Strasbourg Court has ruled that the dismissal of former Supreme Court judge Shkëlzen Selimi from the vetting process was unfair. Earlier, the GJKKO acquitted Selimi of the charges brought by SPAK for refusing to declare and concealing assets.

The ECtHR stressed that the dismissal of a senior judge has very serious consequences and that the vetting bodies did not respect the minimum standards of transparency, reasoning and the right to a defence. According to the decision, a violation of Article 6, the right to a fair trial, was found.

The decision published by the Strasbourg court states that it dismissed the remaining part of Selim's claim for just compensation. It also states that Selim must be paid 6,500 euros by the state within 3 months in relation to the costs and expenses of the legal process.

The vetting authorities dismissed Selimi on the grounds that there were suspicions of inappropriate contacts with AI, a person accused of organized crime and drug trafficking. According to them, he had influenced other judges in 2014-2015 to help AI. He used the car of a relative (AS), who was suspected of being AI's driver.
