In Albania, there is no longer a zonal division for seismic risk, as the entire territory is considered equally at risk.
The increased seismic activity of recent years has led experts to estimate that the new seismic map of Albania that is expected to be published in November is one and not divided into areas as it is today. This is because the whole country is at risk from seismic activities.
"There will not be a well-defined zonal division due to the fact that the effect of the earthquake extends in space and it is meaningless to have a zonal division and say that this area of the territory is more affected or at risk in relation to other areas when these the areas actually interact with each other. The new map is based on what is known as the smooth seismicity has tectonic information and since Albania is in a revolution of these codes. It will be the basic supporting part for the anti-seismic codes that Albania should have", says seismologist Edmond Dushi for TV Klan.
In the new seismic map, it will be recommended that constructions should be based on Eurocode 8 to withstand high-magnitude earthquakes.
"Here we are talking about earthquakes typical of Albania which are over 8, which are damaging earthquakes for the territory of Albania", says seismologist Edmond Dushi.
"The new seismic map based on Eurocode 8 which is an advanced European standard. Very soon we will put the 10 new stations into operation", said seismologist Llambro Duni.
According to experts, November 26, 2019 showed that strong earthquakes are present in Albania. However, for seismologists, the fact that the entire region, including Albania, has intense seismic activity is not a concern.
"The Albanian territory is known for micro-earthquakes and small earthquakes do not pose a problem, it is a release of energy throughout the territory, it is not in a certain area that is concentrated somewhere, if this were the case it would be a concern for seismic activity", said the seismologist Llambro Duni.
